talent is essential if our industry is to thrive. Will one of them be the next Beth Minardi or Jason Backe, the next Sue Pemberton or Kim Vo? Only time will tell, of course, but we expect big things from the young people who made our list this year. Finding and cultivating new ➻ k } mark debolt { WELLA } cut his teeth at HAUS Salon in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was named Best Haircolorist in Minneapolis/ St. Paul in 2011. His decision to relocate to New York City earlier this year was bittersweet, but he knew it was essential if he wanted to take his career to the next level. As a Top Artist for Wella Professionals, DeBolt was introduced to hair color guru Marie Robinson, who quickly hired him. DeBolt fnds hair color more exciting than it's ever been. "People have come to regard their hair color as a function of fashion, something that evolves from season to season," says DeBolt, who spends a lot of time on stage, at photo shoots and in classrooms around the country. "Sophia Loren once said, 'Everything you see I owe to spaghetti,' which I love. Well, everything I am is because of Wella." ➻ kiersten supik k { REDKEN} grew up in Pittsburgh where she followed in the footsteps of the grandmother she never knew and became a hairdresser. The lead colorist at J.E.T. Salon in Oakmont, a tony Pittsburgh suburb, Supik recently became a Redken Certifed Colorist. Education has always been important because "there's always so much more to learn." So where does Supik see herself in fve years? "Doing what I'm doing now but at a higher level, maybe doing platform work on a global level and defnitely teaching for Redken."
