A f nalist in the f rst Colorado Hairstyling Awards, Lopez created this veil of violet color on pre- lightened hair. His inspiration? Pantone's color of the year: Radiant Orchid. "My underlying theme for this collection was the warrior," says Lopez, who wanted strong images with a contrast of soft pastel color. Mission accomplished. → fl ower power Of all the trends we saw at Spring 2014 New York Fashion Week, one we like best pairs soft pastels with vivid brights. "I call it a colorful equilibrium," says Alima Bryan, a gifted hairdresser and photographer, who interpreted the trend by choosing a color palette that takes its cue from spring-blooming fl owers— violet tulips, purple irises and azaleas—and pairing it with a vivid yellow dress.
