In Memoriam
Donn H. Byrne, who
passed away in May,
may have inherited his
love of showmanship
from his father, Joe
Bryne, an Irish tenor, who
founded the International
Beauty Show (IBS) in
1920. After acquiring
the show in the 1950s,
Donn Bryne insisted
that competition be
an important part of
every show. "There's no
downside to learning
how to create a great
hairstyle under pressure.
That's a license to
print money," said
Byrne, who was there
when the International
Beauty Show trophy
was presented to future
legends Geri Cusenza
and Horst Rechelbacher.
