48 The Colorist | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2014 | thecoloristmag.com PHOTORAPHY: COURTESY OF SCRUPLES. bac s ory F rank Liguori had a big heart, and he was deeply loved by family and all the friends he made in the beauty industry. T e 1991 City of Hope honoree was passionate about everything from art to dancing to vintage convertibles, including the 1948 Chrysler Town & Country he's seen driving along the Pacifi c Coast Highway in this photograph (in the 1990s the car, which won numerous awards after Liguori restored it, was featured in an ad for investment company Piper Jaff ray). As a graphic artist for an advertising agency in New York City in the 1950s, Liguori realized that his people skills were his ticket to ride and took a job as a salesman for a beauty supply distributor, quickly rising through the ranks. LaMaur, a Minneapolis-based manufacturer of hair care products, took notice and hired him. While calling on a salon in Youngstown, Ohio, Liguori met his soul mate and future wife, Chessie. Indulging his love for convertibles, Liguori bought one and took his wife with him when he went on the road. According to his daughter Mia, Liguori became a serious collector of classic cars after Scruples, the company he co-founded with good friend Jack Storey in 1983, aff orded him the time to do so. At the time of his death last May, Liguori owned 13 vintage convertibles, all except one of which have been sold to collectors or museums. "My brother Frank kept the '65 Mustang," Mia allows. Somehow we imagine Liguori smiling every time his son takes that car out for a spin. the collector Remembering Scruples co-founder Frank Liguori [1949] DEEP BLUE Chrysler Town & Country convertible [1956] RED Thunderbird convertible [1961] RED Corvette convertible [1965] LIGHT BLUE Mustang convertible [1966] WHITE Mustang convertible [1979] RED Cadillac convertible FRANK'S CLASSICS
