With creative direction from Ginger Boyle, colorist Elle Hoppenstedt did the honors here, bleaching and toning with equal parts Wella Illumina 10/69 and 10/. Hair was set with a one-inch curling iron horizontally and off the face, then brushed out to create a voluminous fringe reminiscent of '90s supermodel Linda Evangelista. "I wanted to give our model a look that was glamorous, timeless and wearable in any decade," Boyle says. THE LOOK blurred li es Inspired by fashion, art, beauty and celebrities, the Blur technique is created by blurring two colors together using Redken's exclusive Blur Brush to create a third color with distinct shades in-between. "Hairdressers want to see edginess, but clients often want a more natural look," says Redken Creative Consultant for Color, Tracey Cunningham. "With the Blur technique, I can customize color for every client, which really allows my creativity to shine." THE YEAR ARNOLD AND SYDELL MILLER FOUNDED MATRIX 1980 one to watch MELISSA FELDMAN, 25, is one to watch. T e suburban Chicago native comes from a long line of beauty industry pros—her grandfather was a barber, while her mom and two aunts were hairdressers. "Mario Tricoci was the salon to go to when I was a teenager," says Feldman, who feels that it was her destiny to work there. Within her fi rst three years as a colorist, she achieved an 85-percent client retention rate. While her skills as a colorist were never in question, it probably had as much to do with her bubbly personality. Named Rising Star, an award given to the top performing new talent at Mario Tricoci, Feldman, who is a member of Cosmetologists Chicago, allows that the best part of her job is making people look good and feel good about themselves. we love her "If your hair is done properly and you have on good shoes, you can get away with anything." —92-year-old fashion icon Iris Apfel
