T is is a great time to be a colorist. Why? Because even though we still have clients who like to keep their color exactly the same from appointment to appointment, an increasing number are open to frequent color changes, thanks to all the exposure our work is getting on social media. T is opens up so many creative possibilities for us as colorists, but it also forces us to be thoughtful about our color strategies. Frequent color changes can be hard on hair, so I try to work with demi-permanent color as often as possible. Demis like the newly restaged Matrix Color Sync are formulated without ammonia, making them gentle on overworked mid-lengths and ends. Color Sync also now has the Cera-Oil Priming complex, with two times more ceramides for twice the conditioning power. Demis can be used for color refreshing, toning, glossing, low-lighting, fi lling, overlays and color boosting. It's important to remember that working with demis is not only about shade choice, however. We must also keep in mind the client's desired result. Does the service require more saturation or greater translucency? For example, an overlay on dark hair calls for the former, while toning a blonde client demands the delicacy of a translucent fi nish.
