Nicole Emiliani MALIBU C DDL Direct Dye Lifter by Malibu C may be used not only to remove fashion colors, but also for highlighting to achieve signature blonde hues. For this model, I did a full foil highlight with DDL Direct Dye Lifter, feathering it into a V-shape to achieve a more natural balayaged look. Next, I did a warm base break and toned with an express toner in gold. Matrix Socolor Ultra.Blonde is now available in f ve new shades—three metallic pigments (UL-Violet Titanium, UL- Rose Gold and UL-Sheer Bronze); UL-Ash Violet; and UL-Clear, which lifts up to 5 levels with no deposit and can be mixed with fashion shades to produce subtle pastel results in one step. [ mymatrixfamily.com ] Oligo Blacklight Extra Blonde is a dust-free lightener that lifts up to 9 levels and is formulated with a positively charged compound that forms an ionic bond during the lightening process to protect and smooth the hair cuticles for consistent color results with enhanced shine. [ oligoprofessionnel.com ] Pravana ChromaSilk Ultra Hi-Lifts lift up to 5 levels and tone in one step; the six available shades are enhanced with nourishing pure silk and keratin amino acids. [ pravana.com ] Colortrak Professional Haircoloring Film features cling-free technology and perforated sheets that are easy to tear but prevent color from bleeding through, making the f lm ideal for use with balayage techniques. [ colortrak.com ] Lara C Kay PRAVANA For expert highlighting results, make sure you follow these tips. First, do a strand test on your client's hair. Use Pravana Chromasilk Ultra Hi-Lifts in sheets of foil or meche. Before starting your highlight, apply the color on the foil before putting the foil under the highlight so the hair gets saturated evenly on both sides. Start highlighting from the front of the hair so the ChromaSilk Hi-Lift can process longer and leave the front of the hair lighter. Make sure to apply Chromasilk Ultra Hi-Lift in very thin sections on both sides of the hair for an even look. Remember, the softer the blend of the highlights, the more natural it will look; the chunkier the highlight, the more brassy and uneven. ➜ s t, , a pp p ly y e e a Shirley Gordon WELLA When doing highlights on any type of dimensional hair, I choose to use a balayage technique. I part temple-to-temple in a horseshoe section, then down the middle, and create two ponytails fastened with coated elastic bands. I then begin my hand-painting technique. I start with one ponytail, divide it into two parts and hand-paint each part. I repeat the same with the other ponytail. This is a quicker technique for hair that's really long and thick. When you drop the hair, it creates an illusion that highlights are sun-kissed throughout instead of just the horseshoe section.
