C olor accessories company Product Club is celebrating 25 years in business this year. Along with the company's acquisition in 2015 by beauty school and beauty supply store product provider Burmax, a lot has changed since Product Club was founded in 1991 by Eric Polesuk. We recently caught up with Burmax/Product Club President Steven Scheff and Vice President (and sister) Deborah Goldschmid to discuss the company's past, present and future. "When Eric founded the company, he was working as a civil engineer at the time, and it was really just a hobby," Scheff says. "T e fi rst product he sold to salons was vinyl gloves. In 1998, as many salons started getting more involved in doing dimensional hair color, Product Club introduced the concept of diff erent colored foils to track the various formulations. T is was considered to be quite innovative at the time." Product Club's brand identity—with its signature brightly colored packaging and bold logo—was developed in 2001, and the following year saw the most signifi cant launches in the brand's history: Ready to Use Pop-Up Foil and jetBlack Disposable Vinyl Gloves, which would quickly become bestsellers. "Over the next few years, the company expanded its presence with a beautiful pavilion at tradeshows, the addition of a dynamic education team and hair color technique DVDs," Scheff says. "Product Club's focus on education and helping colorists be more successful is what set the company apart from its competition." Today, Product Club operates as a separate division of Burmax. T e brand has launched a slew of new products this year, including salon apparel and a number of balayage tools, with more on the way, including an eco-friendly foil alternative. Also new this year: the Blueprint Highlighting series of hair color technique DVDs. "Many of the techniques feature a combination of traditional foiling with balayage," Goldschmid says. "T e series also has one volume dedicated to coloring multicultural, textured hair. We truly believe that we have great potential to grow our business within salons that cater to multicultural hair." As Scheff and Goldschmid look to the future, they say customer service will remain a big priority for Product Club, as well as staying true to the company's mission of providing stylists with superior products they use every day in the salon. "T rough the school network, Burmax will be able to gain direct access to expose the Product Club brand to future colorists," Goldschmid says. "We're committed to continuing to grow the brand and providing colorists with new and innovative tools while expanding the industry's premier educational off erings." poi t of view PHOTOGRAPHY: COURTESY OF PRODUCT CLUB (4) Deborah Goldschmid and Steven Scheff 48 The Colorist | JULY/AUGUST 2016 | thecoloristmag.com Product Club's Steven Scheff and Deborah Goldschmid take us through the company's past, present and future. a colorful tale Product Club's new Balayage Clip, Extra Wide Color Brush and Angled Color Brush
