46 The Colorist | JULY/AUGUST 2017 | thecoloristmag.com i f you're not yet familiar with ColorDesign, a comprehensive hair color line manufactured Brescia, Italy, chances are you'll start seeing the brand in an increasing number of salons in the coming months. While ColorDesign launched more than 20 years ago, it's only been in the last several years that the brand's visibility has expanded in the United States. "Our presence in the United States has increased more than tenfold in the past fi ve years," says ColorDesign president John Bogdan. "We're presently in 35 countries worldwide and growing." ColorDesign's color range includes 134 permanent shades, 46 demipermanent shades, lighteners, developers, and 10 bold Fun & Glam direct-dye colors that can be blended to create everything from pastels to neons. "Our hero product is our Shiny Blond lightening cream," Bogdan says. "It's a blue-based clay lightener that is great for hair-painting, balayage and ombré because it doesn't bleed over; it stays where it's supposed to." All of the hair color is formulated with conditioning CeramideA2 technology, along with keratin. To complement the hair color range, ColorDesign off ers the deeply moisturizing Reconstruction Oil, Shampoo and Mask hair care products. "Our primary goal is always the integrity of the hair, to make the hair stronger and better than it was prior to service," Bogdan says. In the upcoming year, ColorDesign plans to update the packaging for all products, further enhance formulas and introduce a retail color care line. To ensure that colorists understand how to use ColorDesign, the company sends educators to salons to provide hands-on training, following up with phone calls and Skype sessions to answer any questions stylists may have as they arise. "Being that we're a smaller group we're very nimble," Bogdan says. "We're all out in the fi eld, myself included. It allows us to make real changes, quickly." Bogdan is proud of the company's personalized, customer-centric approach, and even freely gives out his cell phone number so that clients and distributors can easily reach him. "I want to make sure stylists understand they have a friend in ColorDesign," he says. "We have a group of colorists who are educators and believe in the same principles as they do. ey're there to provide a service. If we can help stylists with the tools to make their jobs easier, that's all we want to do."
