WHAT'S GOING ON IN SALONS AROUND THE COUNTRY NEW YORK, NY ➜ PHILADELPHIA, PA ➜ SEATTLE, WA ➜ NEW YORK, NEW YORK Donna Moreno, owner of Le Salon, the only exclusively organic salon in Manhattan, has been dedicated to the art of hair restoration for the past fve years, using only organic products to repair hair that's been damaged or compromised. "Some of our clients who weren't washing their hair properly were experiencing hair loss or scalp faking," says Moreno, who uses the Soothe Plus range of shampoos and conditioners from Organic Color Systems to calm, clean and rebalance irritated or sensitive scalps. What Moreno discovered was that the regimen actually improves her hair color results. Who knew? ➜ PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA Elaine Travis, owner of Splash Hair Studio in Philadelphia, competed in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Man and Woman of the Year competition recently. To win, she needed to raise the most money for this important cause. "Naturally my first instinct was to hold an amazing hair event," says Travis, who got Tru Beauty Concepts in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, to donate the use of their educational facility for the event. Artur Kirsh, one of John Sahag's protégés, generously ➜ SEATTLE, WASHINGTON At Milagros SalonSpa in Seattle, the staff celebrated Earth Month in typical Aveda fashion by designing water bottles and auctioning them off. Te proceeds helped support the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, which monitors and reports pollution in the Central Puget Sound area. 18 The Colorist | JULY/AUGUST 2013 | thecoloristmag.com donated his time and talent as a presenter, cutting and styling six models, who walked the runway in the latest spring fashions. While Travis was able to raise $22,160, it wasn't enough to win, but she says she'd do it all again. It was a very rewarding experience and one I'll never forget.
