Jane 22 The Colorist | MARCH/APRIL 2013 | thecoloristmag.com { Levy, who plays Tessa Altman on ABCs Suburgatory and also had a recurring role on Showtimes Shameless, rocks a coppery shade of red that requires a bit of skill to duplicate. Fortunately, Je Stump, who owns Color Arkiteks in Costa Mesa, California and is a guest artist with Arteasecolors, was more than up to the task. Tis shade looks best on someone whos a level 6 or up, Stump says. If the hair is much darker naturally, this shade wont look as good. Stump likes to use natural undertones to support this shade of red. If someone was a natural level 5, Id go in with a 5 or 6 shade of red and let the natural undertones show through to support the color. As an analogy, Stump suggests imagining a white wall you want to paint red. Id need two coats of paint in order to get the true shade of red I wanted, he says, but if the wall was orange and I painted it red, Id only need one coat to get the same results because the undertone was so much darker to begin with. Tats essentially what youre doing with color. 5 Rinse out and shampoo with Davines LOVE Lovely Smoothing Shampoo. 6 Tone the hair with Arteasecolors 9-3 (very light blonde gold). Mix 1 part color to 2 parts 7-volume activator. Watch the color closely and leave on from 3 to 7 minutes. 7 Rinse out the toner. Condition with Davines LOVE Lovely Smoothing Conditioner. Blow-dry and style. Dont use 30- or 40-volume peroxide with red shades because it burns out the color more quickly. { STEP-BY-STEP 1 Start with clean, PHOTOGRAPHY (CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT): ALBERTO E.
