COOL DOWN Eight innovative new shades in the Matrix SOCOLOR portfolio now provide pros with the solution to one of hair color's top challenges: achieving beautiful, wearable grey coverage. Ask for the SOCOLOR Cool Series created specif cally for clients who are less or more than 50 percent grey. KEEPING YOUR COOL Matrix Artistic Director Chrystofer Benson shares his favorite techniques, tips and celebrity trends with you. As colorists, gray coverage is our most requested service, and within that large group of clients, there is a very important sub- category—the client who desires gray coverage with a cool result. T ese clients usually come to us with four "musts" on their list: 1 | T ey "must" not see any unwanted, underlying warmth. 2 | T ey "must" have color that starts cool…and stays cool. 3 | T ey "must" leave with the specifi c type of coverage they want—either controlled or completely concealed. 4 | T e color "must" always appear shiny, healthy and natural. When these clients are in my chair, I like to formulate with neutral ash shades that are designed to mute brassy undertones, fade on-tone and produce the desired fi nish. T e new SoColor Cools from Matrix work beautifully in these instances. If my client is 50 percent gray or less, I fi nd that the SoColor 5NA, 6NA, 7NA and 8NA provide true neutral results. T ey control the tonal value, depth and unwanted warmth, and the color appears rich and lustrous. When my client is 50 to 100 percent gray, I turn to a gray-concealing formula like the SoColor Cools 500 series—504NA, 506NA, 508NA and 510NA. Regardless of the amount of existing gray, the opaque coverage is complete and completely reliable. IN BOTH CASES, the hair looks natural and dimensional—never artifi cial—and that's the most important "must" when it comes to gray coverage. newsfeed f om howdys to harleys After receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from NAHA in Las Vegas this July, Dwight Miller celebrated 50 years of beauty at a party orchestrated by Charlet Pelissier at the Hard Rock Hotel. Friends and colleagues, including Eric Fisher, Michael Baker, Nicholas French, John Donato and Luis Alvarez, showed up to roast the affable hairdresser, who worked for companies like Zotos, Pivot Point, Redken, Vidal Sassoon and Matrix before launching Anasazi, a line of products inspired by Native American culture. An avid collector of Howdy Doody memorabilia, Miller is also happiest riding his Harley. His Run to Cosmoprof lasted 10 years with other hairdressers joining him to ride from Sante Fe, New Mexico, to Las Vegas, arriving in style on their Harleys, of course. 1 3 2 4 5 6 1 Dwight Miller and Phillip Wilson 2 Tressa CEO and co-founder Connie Barrett and Marianne Dougherty 3 Nicholas French and Chrystofer Benson 4 Ian Gavert and Albie Mulcahy 5 Charlet Pelissier and Roberto Vazquez 6 One of Miller's beloved Howdy Doody dolls @PHOTOGRAPHY (CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT): ARMANDO SANCHEZ; COURTESY OF CHRYSTOFER BENSON; COURTESY OF MATRIX.
