➻ jamie sitsler- peckham l { MATRIX } completed her cosmetology education during the last two years of high school, passed the state boards a few months after she turned 18, and immediately began working and saving to open her own salon. She opened the doors of JLS Hair Co. in Claremore, OK, where she's known for creating head- turning blondes, when she was just 21. "That year was a big year for me," Sitsler-Peckham says. "I bought my f rst house, opened my salon and also joined the Matrix team to be an educator." Her next goal? Taking home a North American Hairdressing Award (NAHA). We'll be rooting for her! ➻ colleen f aherty f { AVEDA } is lucky enough to work with the talented Jon Reyman and Christine Thompson at the New York City location of their Spoke & Weal salon. Flaherty hails from Columbus, Ohio, and spent two years working at a salon in Denver before heeding the call to move to New York City after working backstage at fashion week. "Christine has really inf uenced me to look at Aveda color in a whole new way," Flaherty says. "She's opened my eyes to color placement and eff ciency and has also made me look outside the box." ➻ karla vazquez l { SCRUPLES } opened Illusions Hair Studio in Encinitas, CA, at age 22, and has since then also become a Scruples educator. Scruples Co-President Creative Mia Liguori McHugh recognized Vazquez's ability early on. "Her natural talent and artistic fl air have propelled her to the top of her game in a short time span," McHugh says. "As a stage artist and salon owner, she has a fearless approach to color and technical expertise that makes her an unforgettable artist." ➻ meg white k { PRAVANA } is the owner of Meg B White Salon in Atlanta, as well as a Pravana artistic educator, a role she relishes. "I'm proud of going from a spectator to a stage artist at a hair show within the cycle of a year," White says. Her expert tips for fellow colorists? "Use baby oil gel around the hairline to remove any excess color," she says. "Also, use oil and sea salt to remove Pravana ChromaSilk Vivids from your hands." 34 The Colorist | NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2015 | thecoloristmag.com
