44 The Colorist | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 | thecoloristmag.com mind your ethos Scott Mitchell, CEO of Simply Organic, talks about the company's new name, new color offerings and unwavering commitment to bringing hairdressers the most eco-friendly products possible. poi t of view PHOTOGRAPHY: COURTESY OF SIMPLY ORGANIC T he company formerly known as Organic Salon Systems, a major distributor and manufacturer of organic and natural salon products founded in 2001, has seen some considerable changes over the last few months. Along with adopting a new name—Simply Organic—the company has discontinued distributing the U.K.- manufactured color line Organic Colour Systems and taken on two new eco-minded color lines, Australian-originated Original Mineral (O&M;) and Organic Way (Oway), which is produced in Italy and is new to the U.S. market. "Unfortunately, our primary color line wasn't really keeping up with changes in new organic ingredient technologies, so they were falling behind the times," says Simply Organic CEO Scott Mitchell. "We started looking at other providers in the marketplace, and we just found better products." According to Mitchell, the company's former name was too closely tied to their previous color line. "We had acquired this company Simply Organic a few years ago, and they have good products and a good reputation," he says. "We decided that name better fi t what our company is about." Mitchell says that off ering two color lines has allowed Simply Organic to better address salons' diff erent needs in terms of ingredients, price point, specialties and clientele. "O&M; uses Clean Color Technology, which represents the latest and greatest in organic ingredient technology, and it's PPD-free," Mitchell says. "Oway is our premium line. It's a level above organic; the organic ingredients in Oway are biodynamic, which means there have been no chemicals put on the soil for 150 years." Mitchell adds that the manufacturers of Oway source their ingredients for the products—packaged in amber glass bottles and aluminum tubes—from their own farm, where everything is planted and harvested by hand. In addition to hair color, both O&M; and Oway off er a comprehensive collection of care, treatment and styling options. Simply Organic will also continue to distribute O'Right and KeraGreen products and manufacture the Moroccan Organics, Momentum and Luma Lisse lines, along with Simply Organic branded products. A completely redesigned mobile-friendly website clearly explains and diff erentiates all of the product lines and their benefi ts for stylists. Despite all of the changes, Simply Organic remains committed to education, off ering live classes at their Florida-based headquarters, regional locations around the country and a new O&M; academy in New York City, as well as online certifi cation classes and webinars covering a range of topics, from color trends to achieving better gray coverage. T e company's dedication to professional stylists remains unchanged, as well. "Our commitment to our customers has always been that we're going to bring them the cleanest, most organic, natural and environmentally friendly products possible that don't sacrifi ce the professional result, and we felt we weren't delivering what we were promising," Mitchell says. "Change is diffi cult for everybody, but as these products continue to fi lter through and as stylists have started using them, they're realizing why we had to make the change and how much better these new technologies are." "Our commitment to our customers has always been that we're going to bring them the cleanest, most organic, natural and environmentally friendly products possible." OWAY HCOLOR is an ammonia- free, 95-shade color line containing organic, biodynamic and fair trade ingredients. O&M; MINERAL.CCT is a PPD-, resorcinol- and ammonia-free 99-shade color line made with a proprietary mineral complex. O R G A N I C H A I R C O L O R
