At left: To produce this blonde veil with neon blue peeking through the ends and fringe, Ashley Kowalsky pre-lightened and toned the hair, and then used an airbrush with Goldwell Elumen bb@all and a few drops of tq@all to paint on the accents. PRO TIP "Leave out the top layers to create a veil over the blue, and do the same in the fringe as well," Kowalsky says. "Drop down and paint the ends to the mid-lengths, feathering up to diffuse the line of demarcation." After pre-lightening and glazing the hair, Kowalsky applied Goldwell Elumen kk@all with an airbrush machine to create a bold orange root shadow and, after pre-sectioning a panel out in the back, added a few vibrant violet accents with Elumen Tq@all and pk@all. PRO TIP "Be sure to hold the hair tight and start spraying at the root to the ends," Kowalsky says. "Pull your arm up and away from the hair to diffuse the line of demarcation for seamless blending." | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2017 | The Colorist 41 1 2 bright touches accent classic hair color looks in the new Neon Plastic collection from Arrojo Master Colorist Ashley Kowalsky, who utilized an airbrush machine to apply Goldwell hair color in tailored gradients. The technique made it possible for Kowalsky to control the light intensity and illumination of the color so that the accents could be customized to the shape of each haircut and style, created by Lina Arrojo using Arrojo professional products. "I wanted to blend the latest hair color technology with the high-fashion trends we're seeing in New York City," Kowalsky says.
