Salon software company Stylie estimates that independent hairstylists typically manage 250 or more loyal clients, which leaves limited time for the operational tasks that come with renting a booth or running a salon suite on their own. Elizabeth Christie, CEO of SureTint Technologies, which recently launched the Suretint Mia App for independent stylists, says many lack an easily accessible, organized system for storing client formulas and pictures, as well as a means to eff ectively promote their work. Advancements in mobile technology and cloud computing, however, have resulted in the availability of a number of apps designed specifi cally to help independent stylists be more successful. "I believe they can appreciate the immediacy, economy and simplicity of using their phones for their businesses," Christie says. " ey can literally take their businesses anywhere with them, anytime, and continue to be eff ective, creative and professional." Here are fi ve apps independent stylists should check out. KADUS EDUCATION APP Geared toward independent stylists, as well as salon owners and students, Kadus' app for iOS and Android mobile devices provides instant access to educational videos, step-by- steps and product information. Users can reach the Kadus support team via a live help chat link, and can also purchase Kadus products directly through the app after opening an account on and the Kadus app. ➜ COSMOPROF APP This free new app allows stylists to set up appointments, maintain client profi le information and color formulas, process credit card payments through Square, and earn a commission by recommending products to clients via text message or email. In addition, the app features how-to videos and step-by-steps from a multitude of artists and brands, along with exclusive offers and coupons from CosmoProf. ➜ SOLA PRO This app and website exclusively for Sola Salon Studios professionals features an education event calendar and videos; a weekly-updated blog full of marketing and business tips; special promotions on products, education, insurance and salon software; and access to PerkSpot, which offers deals on items ranging from movie tickets to airfare. ➜ STYLIE ONE Designed to help independent stylists cut down on the time spent on administrative processes, the Stylie One mobile and desktop platform offers features like inventory management, online scheduling, auto-marketing, point-of-sale, credit card processing and profi le management. Automated receipts, appointment reminders and thank you messages are designed to streamline day-to-day processes even further. ➜ SURETINT MIA APP The Mia (My Intelligent Assistant) App enables suite, booth renter and individual colorists to accurately and securely manage their client profi les and formulas on a mobile device. Among other features, the app can also calculate the correct amount of hair color, developer or chemical service quantity; recommend and record the right dispense amount for each service type; record and reproduce formulas; capture before-and-after photos and share them on social media; and maintain client profi les. ➜ | workplace
