Andre Faiva, a fi nalist in the 2017 Australian Hair Fashion Awards competition and co-owner of Revolution Hairdressing in Queensland, tapped into youth culture—from music to street to fashion—to create his new Club Kids collection. The hair shapes in the collection showcase soft movement and internal layering, while the color, created by Niquita Miller-Hayes, features muted yet multitonal hues achieved with tie-dying and shape-shifting techniques. A wardrobe of clothing with clashing textures and shape—from motocross jackets to denim and heavy prints—ties the theme together. "No matter where I look these days, be it on the street, in clubs or on Instagram, I see people pushing the boundaries in search of creating their own identities, looking for something that sets them apart," Faiva says. "It's the end result of this push for individuality that has driven and inspired me to create Club Kids." MILLER-HAYES PRE-LIGHTENED a few sections of hair at the front before applying a copper shade through the rest of the hair at the basin, and then applied the pastel tones through the fringe. To achieve the cut, Faiva applied a heavyweight line through from the front to the back, and then used a scissor-over-comb technique to complete the shape. The fringe was cut using a heavy, deep-angled post- cutting technique. 28 The Colorist | JULY/AUGUST 2017 | ILLUSTRATION: PSHONKA
