Page 39 of 52 | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2017 | The Colorist 37 A fter Matrix artist Todd Kane's mother lost her battle with cancer, the master colorist decided to devote his talents to a higher purpose, founding Love Out Lavender in early 2015. The movement challenges beauty professionals to tap into their creativity and passion to raise money for the City of Hope cancer medical and research center. Each type of cancer has its own colored ribbon (pink represents breast cancer, for example), so Kane chose to use the color lavender in the organization's name, as it represents all cancers. "Love conquers all; lavender represents them all—Love Out Lavender," Kane explains. As part of his personal commitment to the cause, Kane, a stylist in Phoenix and a North American Hairstyling Awards Newcomer of the Year fi nalist, creates image-driven fundraising campaigns throughout the year. Seen here are the Indigo collection, representing colon "INDIGO EVOLVED organically," Kane explains. "I like to tell stories with my work, and before we began working, the model shared her story of her dad's fi ght with colon cancer. The ribbon for colon cancer is blue, so we took it from there." KANE USED Matrix Biolage R.A.W. products to prep the hair, and Style Link styling products to create the fi nished looks.
