Inspired by the past, the Eccentric Romantics collection from Australia's Pauline McCabe provides glimpses of dark gothic, teddy girl and 1960s mod infl uences, styled for today's free- spirited, individualistic woman and accented by natural-looking hair color. "Romanticism in the 19 th century was a deliberate reaction against harmony and rationality in the arts," says McCabe, 2017 Hair Expo WA/NT Hairdresser of the Year and 2017 AHFA WA/NT Hairdresser of the Year. "Individuals were free to create imaginative and spontaneous alternatives. Just like the romanticism of yesteryear, the Eccentric Romantics collection draws on the creativity and styles of earlier eras." Scottish-born McCabe, who now resides in Australia and is the owner of Australia's Rock Paper Scissors Hair Studio, as well as a painter who has studied fi ne arts, brings a sense of softness to all of her work. "In this collection, the softness is ethereal, suiting the vintage, otherworldly feel I want to convey," she says. BABYLIGHTS applied throughout on a strawberry blonde base provide dimension in this voluminous look, which Pauline McCabe achieved by setting the hair with a small wand and combing it out. | NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017 | The Colorist 35
